The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive and sub-specialty care in the areas of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dental-Oral, Maxillo-facial Surgery, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery. The Department has 120 full-time and part-time faculty with a strong commitment towards teaching and research. Formal structured undergraduate teaching, postgraduate residency and fellowship programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the department. The Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Manager in the Department of Surgery. Responsibilities You will be expected to help facilitate the academic as well as research functions, hiring, as well as liaising with the clinical business manager across University. Additionally, you will be responsible to: facilitate the Departmental Chair and the Vice Chair (Education & Research) in developing and implementing processes to facilitate and encourage faculty participation in research and academic teaching related responsibilities with measurable components to be included in the faculty evaluationmonitor, review, and update the Departmental committee functions of the Office of Education and Training in Surgery (OETS), Office of Academic and Research in Surgery (OARS), Group of Appraisal and Promotion in Surgery (GAPS), Virtual Faculty Appraisal Scoring Template (VFAST) and compliance to the Departmental Budget committee guidelinesassist the Chair of Surgery in leading and directing the strategic development of faculty and provide support for the On-going Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) for review of clinical practice and comparison to faculty within the specialty along with the credentialing and the recredentialling of the faculty assist the Chair in the recruitment process of faculty and staff members and support recent programs' engagement participate in all ISO/ JCIA internal audits of the Aga Khan University Hospital develop & implement the Strategic Plan of Surgery, particularly in relation to research and education linked to the institutional plansliaise with the Hospital and other departments to aggregate the data at the faculty level and effectively utilize it to prepare reports for the departmental Chair for review, appraisal, and discussion with faculty provide support in the general administration of the department and manage learning and development attributes of the admin staff review and approve the Departmental budget.Requirements You should have: preferably a MBBS degree from a recognized college/university a Master’s degree in health care/hospital/Management from a recognized national/ international institutionprofessional qualifications or certifications in Quality Management, Risk Management, and performance improvementfive years of general management experience in a reputable healthcare institution with three years of experience working in quality improvement and risk management at a managerial level in a tertiary healthcare settingexcellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skillsexcellent leadership skills and qualitiesthe ability to work closely with senior management the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teamsthe ability to work closely with faculty and staff of a hospitalthe ability to conduct training sessions for interns, residents, fellows, and other hospital staff.To ApplyInterested candidates should send their detailed CVs by email to human.resources@aku.edu and mark the position # 10025709 in the subject line.Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.Applications should be submitted latest by October 2, 2023
